His orientation to work is a combination of systems thinking, relationships, and transformative action. Eduardo began his career as a middle school math teacher in North Philadelphia. As a middle school teacher, Eduardo helped co-lead an overnight college immersion trip to Duke University for forty students. He then went on to earn a doctorate in Curriculum, Instruction and Teacher Education. His research focused on teacher educators’ pedagogical response to teacher candidates' resistance to conversations about race and racism. During his time as a doctoral candidate, Eduardo assisted with a racial equity audit for a mid-size school district in Western Michigan. He also taught undergraduate and graduate courses in the college of education and served as a coordinator for a writing center satellite location. After earning his Ph.D., Eduardo served as program director for Communities in Schools of Michigan—an organization committed to providing non-curricular support services to students (e.g., basic needs, enrichment activities, etc.) Eduardo is originally from Nicaragua and grew up in Southern California.
